When a person’s going through a tough time, just knowing someone cares can be a big help. A handmade encouragement card is a wonderful way to let them know that YOU do! Not only will hearing from you lift their spirits, but every time they see your card, they’ll be reminded that they’re not alone.
Always & Forever Encouragement Card
Here’s a simple encouragement card I made today to let a friend know I care. When making this kind of card, I always start by picking an uplifting sentiment stamp. This way, no matter what other materials I use, I’m certain the message of my card is clear.
For today’s card, I chose the “I’m always here for you,” stamp from the Always & Forever set. Not only does this stamp say what needs said, but it’s also in all caps to really emphasize the message!
Since the images in Always & Forever are equally sweet, I didn’t have to look any further for the perfect pairing to make my card. But even if I had, that’s one of the joys of stamping — mixing and matching what you’ve got to create the perfect card every time!
Because I picked a nature image to work with, I also chose a relatively natural color combo. I think the brown, pink, and white give this card a certain softness, while the bright green adds a cheerful note.
For the card base, I used a pre-made striped ‘Lemon Lime Twist’ card from the Tutti-Frutti Cards & Envelope pack.
TIP: Pre-made card bases save you time on cutting, so you can spend more time stamping and coloring!
Next, I layered on Soft Suede and Powder Pink cardstock squares that I cut with my Big-Shot and the Stitched Shapes die set. Of all the dies I have, this set is my favorite, because they add that a warm, ‘homey’ stitched look to each shape I cut with them.
To stamp the image, I used my Soft Suede ink pad. Then I went over the interior lines with a blender pen to soften them up, and to color in the stump.
For the leaves and heart, I used the blender pen with Powder Pink and Lemon Lime Twist inks. Coloring this way creates a faux watercolor effect that is much softer than coloring with markers!
To brighten the heart a bit, I also added a touch of glitter with my Wink of Stella glitter brush.
TIP: The Wink of Stella glitter brush lets you add sparkle exactly where you want it, with none of the mess of using loose glitter!
Once the image was fully colored, I ‘fussy cut’ it with my Paper Snips, and attached it to the card with some Stampin’ Dimensionals foam squares. Finally, I stamped the all-important sentiment in Soft Suede below the image.
To finish off the layout, I cut a small banner from Powder Pink cardstock, and stamped it using Soft Suede ink with the scattered hearts image that’s included in the Always & Forever stamp set. With the addition of a bit of linen thread, this card is now ready to mail off to encourage my friend.
