I’ve been so caught up in prepping for the new catalogue launch (wait until you see all the fun new stuff!!!) that I nearly forgot that Mother’s Day is next weekend. Ack! So today I set everything else aside to make special ‘mom’ things, starting with this fun eclipse card for my mother-in-law.
When I think of my mother-in-law, and what she enjoys (besides her family, of course), cooking and gardening top the list. So what better combination than the Apron of Love bundle and Share What You Love papers to make her card?
Originally I’d planned to paper-piece the apron, but then I remembered the eclipse card technique, which I’ve been meaning to try for months.
See how the apron on my card looks to be cut from the same designer paper, but also has a little bit of a shadow around and behind it? This is the fun effect you get with the eclipse card technique. It’s subtle, but interesting, don’t you think?
How I Made This Eclipse Card
To make this eclipse card, I started with two pieces of paper:
- One 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of patterned paper
- A solid, dark-colored, 4-1/4 x 5-1/2-inch card base
Next, I die-cut the apron from the center of the patterned paper.
Then I attached the negative — the piece with the apron-shaped hole in the center — to the card base with some SNAIL adhesive.
After that, I added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the die-cut apron.
Finally, I attached the apron to the card base, right inside the die-cut hole.
As finishing touches for the apron, I stamped the ‘Mom’ sentiment on the front in Basic Black ink. Then I added an embellished die-cut apron pocket, and some ribbon ties.
The Rich Razzleberry velvet ribbon, Artisan Pearls, and baker’s twine that I used to embellish the apron are all part of the new Share What You Love suite. Don’t they coordinate perfectly with these papers?
