Do you ever get so excited about something you’re waiting for, that you start to drive yourself — and everyone around you — crazy? That was definitely me today! No, I wasn’t waiting on my new catalogue preorder (although that should be here soon, too). I was actually waiting to meet my dad for the first time ever! Wow, right?
Now I’d have to write a book to explain why we’ve never met. But suffice to say, we only learned of each other last spring. And after spending a year getting to know each other by phone, we finally agreed to meet in person today for dinner.
So naturally my anxiety was through the roof all day while I waited. Long story short, I made this birthday card to give myself something else to think about!
To make this card, I used stamps from the soon-to-retire In the Trees set.
Isn’t this a fun collection? There are so many ways you could combine these images to create spring and summer scenes! I especially love the string of garden lights, though I didn’t use them on today’s card.
For my scene, I stamped the images in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored them with Stampin’ Blends markers. Since I haven’t used these markers much, I’m still getting the hang of how they work. But I’m enjoying the process, and that’s what matters, right?
I kept the card embellishments simple, because the scene itself is so detailed. Just a little baker’s twine behind the ‘Happy Birthday’ banner, and a peeking orange doily. By the way, that doily started out white, but I was able to add color to it really quickly with one of my Stampin’ Blends.
