Spring might only be halfway over, but my crafting brain has already moved on to summer events. Between graduations, Father’s Day, and some big milestone birthdays, I need to make a lot of cards! So today I got a little jump on them, starting with this summer birthday card.
This zesty little number is for a dear friend who turns 50 this year. Can you believe we’ve been friends since we were teens? Friendships like that are truly something to treasure!
To make her summer birthday card, I combined stamps from the Lemon Zest and Mixed Drinks sets with this week’s fabulous sketch from the Sketch Saturday challenge blog.
As you can see, I tweaked the sketch just slightly, by moving the circle piece up near the top of my card, and adding two banner pieces instead of just one.
Since I stamped the sentiments on the banners, I also added a playful bunch of citrus leaves and sequins where the sketch called for the sentiment to be.
TIP: The Lemon Builder punch makes ‘cutting’ these leaves out a cinch!
What I love about card sketches like this one is that, while they give you a solid starting point for cardmaking, they’re also ‘open’ enough to let your own creativity shine through. So if you ever need a little nudge to start a card, try a card sketch. You can find many fun ones on my ‘Card Sketches to Try’ Pinterest board. Of course, Stampin’ Up! catalogues are always a great source of card inspiration, too!
